Blog 3

Posted by Paul on July 13, 2007 5:23 PM |

Hi everyone, Paul here again. Hope you’re enjoying the blog so far – it’s Friday now and the album will be in the shops on Monday – I still can’t believe it!

I’m in Bristol today – it’s a beautiful city, and I’m really enjoying myself – since winning the competition I’ve been lucky enough to visit some fantastic places and I’m trying to take as much of it in as possible. That’s why keeping this blog is so great – it means that I’ll be able to read it back in the future and remember all the amazing places I got to visit and the lovely people I’ve met along the way. A real highlight of the whole adventure so far was my trip to New York a couple of weeks ago.

It was a really short trip, we flew in one day and flew back home the next – I can tell you I was pretty tired after that – but I did have time to take in some of the sights including the Empire State Building which is something I’ll always remember and the Rockefeller centre . I remember thinking the whole time that I was the luckiest man alive, and I still think that every minute of the day. There were so many really talented people taking part in the competition that I never dreamed I would get past even the first stage. I was so nervous before I went on stage the first time, and in fact every time I performed on the show I was nervous. I’m still nervous every time I perform but as soon as I start singing I lose myself and that’s when I really feel myself.

Greetings Paul from New England USA. Your CD is preordered and we are going to have a "listening party" where your CD will be played on a state of the art sound system while we sit in big, fat, comfortable leather chairs with the biggest box of tissues we can find and a slide show of my favorite pictures of your journey will be playing on the

Hi. USAer here. One of millions that saw you on YouTube and were moved to tears, chills, and exhilaration. I keep up with your journeys thanks to Ally on MySpace. You know that ordinary people all over the world celebrate your success and eagerly await your album (I ordered 2). IF there's a movie about your life, I hope you'll consider playing yourself. Google "Audie Murphy." Precedent has been set. He was a WWI hero who played himself in a movie about his life...and everyone discovered that not only was he a genuinely heroic person, he COULD ACT. And ride a horse like wow!!! Westerns were his genre. He was an inspiration to people growing up in the 1950's. I bet you can act as well as sing, like wow!!!

Thanks again for never giving up! And my best to Julz.

Oh my goodness, lol, I just fumbled my way through a bunch of Potty stuff and found your post and I’m very happy about that – ‘Cause, I want to tell you…personally…what we think of you over here in the USA. I know all the comments on your myspace were sabotaged and you missed a ton of congrats and good wishes. So, I’m telling you personally what I commented on and a little more.

I’ve loved opera since I was a kid. I’ve already been through the emotional feelings a person first experiences when listening to “Nessun Dorma,” and I was ready to just listen to you and not get emotionally lost in the beauty of the notes. So, let me tell you…I just closed my eyes, did not care about your story, i.e., your background, your appearance, or whatever the so-called critics are attributing your over-night success to…AND…you floored me! “That voice…that voice…is all I kept saying.” I ran and got my friends and relatives to listen to you. (And they will, 'cause I’m a haunt – I’ll bug everyone till they listen. lol) And, they love you, too!

It was beautiful! It was amazing! I never thought anyone could do a better job or move me the way Pavarotti did and, of course, he was my favorite at the time and I still love him. I even went to the MET in New York City just to see if, by chance, I could meet him; however, he was not in town that day. I’m only telling you this because I was such a fan of Pavarotti’s and…NEVER…in a million years did I think anyone could top him or replace him on my favorites list until…I heard you.

Paul you have a wonderfully unique voice. So as far as I’m concerned your talent is what caught my attention. Anyone could get on a talent show and with a great orchestra and backup singers, a down-to-earth-one-of-us background story and a new tux…BUT…if they can’t sing…if they don’t have the ‘voice’ – THEY DON’T WIN! But you did! And you went further! You’re a phenomenon! No one has ever in the history of mankind…ever…ever…lifted the spirits of millions upon millions of people…around the whole world…especially…in one instance, as you have! No one – Not ever! And no one...especially…with a great voice, with renown famous rich, wheeling and dealing contacts, or with a zillion bucks to buy his or her way to “instant success” at the top…has ever accomplished what you have! Paul, you’re here FOREVER!

And in conclusion let me tell you this: ALL OPERA SINGERS WERE “NOBODIES” BEFORE THEY STARTED! They all came into this world naked, too! So, don’t worry about the critics – the “people” are the ones who count the most and THE PEOPLE LOVE YOU! So, don’t let the elite, the so-called sophisticated legends-in-their-own- minds try to change you! You know what you feel, so do it YOUR WAY! It's what the "people" love most about you!

I have been following your amazing story since I first heard about you on the BBC after your first televised audition. Having watched all the videos of your Britain's Got Talent appearances and read many comments from around the world, I must conclude that this is one of the greatest real time 'rags to riches' stories to ever unfold live on TV. But the real power of this story is its broadcast worldwide via the Internet. Millions of us are able to call up any portion of your incredible rise from nowhere to everywhere on demand. The incredible emotional impact of your performances cannot be duplicated by others without your life experience.

I have been following Amazon.co.uk for weeks and it has been exciting watching you climb the 'Bestsellers' list. It should be noted that you have hit #1 as of Sunday night 15 July 2007. Congratulations, Paul Potts!

You have to sing the National Anthem at the Millenimum Stadium when Wales play Australia in the Rugby World Cup this year. Pencil it in your diary. No, write it in in big black ink.

A great Salute from Mexico, Paul!

Excuse my bad english!

Tony Maciulis ( I don't know who is he), wrote something: "Find your inner Paul Potts. Everyone has one".

And I really think he is true.
I wrote this in another blog after I saw your videos in Youtube, and modified (crossed fingers) that you read it:

"I was feeling down for a long time ago, because of many kind of troubles that are very difficult to deal with...

Since I saw your audition video in YouTube, I'm trying, working and pushing me to keep going on... you have taught me, in that incredible especial moment, when you started to sing Nessum Dorma, that I can make my dreams come true, don't to be afraid, giving the best of ourselves...
I don't sing a single music note Paul... but now I try everyday, in every activity of my life, to be a little bit as you are, you touched the deepest part of thousands of hearts and souls with your voice...

Paul, thank you for been a guiding light in so many people... And when I have achieved something someday in the future, I will rise my eyes to the sky, and I will ask God to send a thanks to you for been an inspiritional human being.... "

That is what you are representing for many, many people around the world, "amigo"!

My wife, my daugther and me, are waiting ansiously to you first CD, hoping that in Mexico is been realased in the same date, too!

A great salute from Mexico to you and your wife, wishing you all the success that you deserve!!!!
I hope that we could see you in this side of the world...

Sincerely, from the enchilada and tequila country!

Tia in North Carolina, USA wrote...

Paul, you and Julie need to accept that *this is your career* now and not let what happened in the past or your old jobs hold you back from realizing your future potential. Nothing is ever for certain, including selling phones, so stop being so nervous. If you're smart with your money, you'll now have the means to do something else in the future, if need be, even start your own business. We did that and I'm about to start another small one of my own, now that I've helped my husband get his off the ground. We're a team, like you two. :)

You must keep your coworkers in mind, too, and understand they need people who are going to be there every day and let someone else have those jobs who could use them. It's just common sense and considerate. You can't do both, it's not practical.

I might add the pretty little home my husband and I purchased ten years ago is now triple in value. I'm glad we bought one we really enjoy living in that's in a nice area, rather than compromising, and we didn't spend more than we could afford. It was a good investment in our future. Just spend some time looking around until your money from the CD comes in and things will fall into place better in your minds.

It's none of my business, but we went through terrible times when we were younger and I understand your thinking, to a certain extent. You've made a lot of friends you don't even know and this one has a husband she loves very much who had difficulty with self confidence, too, so consider the source.

If we aren't willing to let go of some things that aren't working for us, there is no room for the new to enter. Right now, I am redoing our home and throwing old things out, so there is room for the things I need for my new business. Clutter keeps the mind cluttered up, too.

I could spend all day listening to you sing and your CD is scheduled to arrive on my birthday! I'll use it for inspiration while I make my new creations and do them "my way!"

Good luck, Paul and Julie!!

Hi Paul

I'm another who was absolutely thrilled to see you win the competition.

You really are doing something quite extraordinary: you are turning those who never liked opera to opera. Your singing has that one elusive and unteachable quality, Paul - the ability to move people.

I am glad for everyone in the world who loves music, but mostly for you, that you did hit that ' submit ' button.

I wish you love and everything good always to you and yours

God bless

Paul, I missed seeing you on Britain's Got Talent, downloaded you on YouTube wondering what all the excitement was about and got knocked sideways. As a Welsh expat I would love to hear you sing in Welsh, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (Welsh National Anthem) seems a great place to start.

I've got your album here and it is truly wonderful - how did you produce such quality in such a short space of time? There is something in your voice that touches our souls deeply; I pity the critics who cannot hear it.

My son is a p/t musician who works for that mobile company that begins with O. He has dreams too; what a thrill for us all that you have realised yours.
