Latest update!

Posted by Paul on July 19, 2007 3:58 PM |

Hello everyone, I’m back – sorry about not updating this blog yesterday – I’ve been so busy promoting the album, as it was released on Monday and things are busier than ever. It’s like being in a whirlwind, with so much going on that sometimes I have to take a few minutes to have some time to myself – otherwise I think I’d go mad! I honestly don’t know how I’d cope without the wonderful team of people I’ve got helping me through this exciting time. When we were preparing for the album I got to write a list of people I wanted to thank, which appears in the sleeve notes. First and foremost I have said thank-you to my wonderful wife Julie-Ann – I wouldn’t have been able to do this without her support and love.

There’s too many people to name here, but if you read the notes on the album you can see all the people that have helped me along the way. There’s so much going on behind the scenes that most people wouldn’t even have dreamed of – including me- that goes into the business of making and releasing an album, and I have been blown away by the kindness that everyone has shown to me.

If anyone reading this has bought the album, I hope you enjoy it – I have had the most fun making it and just hope that the people who voted for me on the show like it, as it’s their support that have got me this far. Now the album is out there I feel really excited – and I’m looking forward to the rest of the journey. I’ve just been told my next trip is to Australia and America and I’m absolutely over the moon that Julie-Ann will be coming with me to experience all of this with me.

Paul Bryant wrote...

Well Paul, bloody well done. I doubt that you will read this but just on the offchance here's a few words you may find useful. You have managed to get to first base on your rollercoaster called the entertainment industry. It is only first base but you can get to second by focussing on your your love of singing and practice practice practice. Trust Simon Cowell and very few other people. Not because Simon is a great guy (he is) but because he's a connsumate professional and he wants to make money out of you (which is a good thing). Most everyone else you will come across are wannabees who want to make money out of you but can't make you money and they just waste your time. Get Simon to recommend a top flight publicist and a manager (A list). They're expensive but it's really important to you. Never trust anyone in the business who tells you how great you are more than once (if that). The Brits especially are extremely fickle once they sense that someone has 'made it'. Protect yourself by developing critical acclaim ASAP. I would love to go see you headlining at the Met. Remember you are bankrolling everybody around you. Make sure you know what their jobs are and why they're there. Get yourself a great assistant and give him/her the phone to repair and for that matter anything else including the bottle of Evian you need right now. Not because you're putting it on but because your voice gets better when you're practicing/singing rather than peering into a fridge. Your job is to get that voice into grade A shape without losing your emotion along the way. You shouldn't be thinking about anything other than your voice and the money. This is where Julie-Ann comes in. She's your partner in every way and the one person you can totally trust. She's your filter. Most 'rising stars' blow out because they listen to people who are unqualified and they get involved with activities that distract them from what they should be concentrating on. Your next album will be coming out later on next year. It's going to take you 2 months to cut it (possibly 3) and everybody is going to hold a big ass magnifying glass up to it. If you keep yourself straight and focus on what's important (your singing) 20 years from now its a knighthood for you boyo. Think I'm kidding? look back into history and you'll find Jimmy Galway or even Harry Secombe (who was always underappreciated as a singer). Your really lucky because you've got the Royal Variety performance to talk about. This is going to give you about six months more honeymoon before your team has to really get into gear and start keeping you in the public eye. You have no idea how you are going to change and change you will. I can already see it in the interviews over the past 5 weeks. Enjoy it but keep checking in with your wife and your family. If they start to grow distant (they'll never tell you because you'll be too rich) retrace your steps and find out why. It's really important. BTW you wait untill you really get in the thick of it. Hollywood is beckoning already, keep away for as long as possible or use Simon as a shield. Hollywood isn't really evil it just tries it's hardest to look that way.

Best of luck in the future Paul. And yes, you made this hard bitten cynical 52 year old Emmy Award winning ex pat bawl his eyes out.

Tizoc Gutierrez wrote...

Hi Paul!

A long time ago, I found this text that I hope you like it.

Now I believe that the person that wrote it, was inspired by you.

Original is in Spanish, I translate it into English (hoping that the traduction is ok!)

"Aprendí y decidí
I learned and I decided.

And thus after to wait too much time, one day, as any other day I decided to prevail.

Decidí no esperar a las oportunidades sino yo mismo buscarlas.
I decided do not to wait to the opportunities but looking for them by myself.

I decided to see each problem as the opportunity to find the solution.

I decided to see every desert as the oportunity to find an oasis.

I decided to see every night as a mystery to solve.

I decided to see every day as a new opportuniy to be happy.

That day, I discoverded that my only rivals were not more than my own weaknesses, and in them, are the only and the better way to surpass them.

Aquel día dejé de temer a perder y empecé a temer a no ganar.
That day I let to feel fear to lose and I began to be afraid of not to win.

I found that I was not the best, an maybe I never was it. It let to me matter who won or lose.

Ahora me importa simplemente saberme mejor que ayer.
Now it matters to me simply to know that I'm better than yesterday.

I learned that the difficult thing is not to arrive at the top, but to keep raising it.

I discovered that love is more than a simple state of loveness. "Love is a life philosophy".

That day I stopped being a reflection of my little triumphs of the past and began to be my own tenuous and growing light of this present.

I learned that it doesn't matter to be as a light, if you're not going to illuminate the way of the people around you.

Aquel día decidí cambiar tantas cosas.
That day I decided to change so many things...

That day I learned that dreams are only to make them come true. since that day, I don't sleep to rest.

Ahora simplemente duermo para soñar.
Now I simply sleep to dream."

Paul, to many people in the world, you are the living example that If we have a dream, to go for it.

Sincerely, from Mexico

Tizoc

On the Great Plains of western Oklahoma you've won the hearts of many. Your freshness and honesty is compelling and I believe your journey will be long and productive. Just wanted you to know of the appeal you have, even in the "old west". What you've done is phenomenal but real.
We anxiously await your CD, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results!
With warmest regards,

You did a very nice job with your first CD, Paul. Congratulations. Also in Belgium you got a lot of admirers. I think you and Julz are an awsome couple. Two beautiful people in spite of not responding to the standards, a living statement that you don't need to be perfect to shine. Take good care of Julz, she's worth it!

Mr. Paul Potts, Thank you for bringing a breath of fresh air into the music our ears are shattered with daily.
Your voice brings a chill to the spine and what a lovely feeling.

I wish you great success in your singing career. I hope you are able to perform in South Florida soon, especially Ft. Lauderdale.

To me you are the true Prince of Wales.

I am glad you didn't become a vicar, the world would have lost hearing some of the sweetest music this side of heaven.

God loves you and soon will all of America.
God Bless, Don

Dear Paul,
I feel as if I know you personally as do the millions of other admirers you have won over in the past few weeks. You have the voice of an angel and one that provokes deep emotion among men, women, even children. Those in between, the teens, have warmed my heart with their candid response to you....("only liked rap, hip-hop, rock before hearing you", etc.)I listen to you every morning and you give me faith and a feeling of peace. The first post above (Paul Bryant)is priceless advice, for indeed life without the love of family is not so bright. Mr. Bryant is quite correct also regarding hangers-on who don't have your best interests at heart. Simon Cowell is in fact the one person aside from Julie-Ann whose advice you should listen to and can trust completely. You are the living embodiment of the triumph of "everyman". Don't be overwhelmed by the adulation. As my husband used to say, "A peacock today, a feather duster tomorrow." Keep your balance. Enjoy the rest of your life and know that the joy you have given around the world cannot be bought. People weep for joy at the sound of your voice and I among them. God bless you, Paul Potts.

Ohhhh Paul,
I cannot believe that I am actually writing on your blog! I have the link to every site you are on and I have sent them to many friends across America.
I live in Southern California just a few miles from Disneyland. It was the first audition video that a friend sent me and I have been totally and irrevocably hooked since then! I watch the three videos about twice a day to get my "Paul Potts Fix"!
For some reason I cannot log onto your official website which was a great disappointment but I love this one! (Maybe it was my username, #1 Paul Potts Fan") I have followed the site that shows all the videos of your interviews every few days. When you were on the Today Show I set my alarm and watched the show for the first time just to see you!
I want you to know that your songs are playing in my head all day! I can't seem to get them out but it could be that is a great thing!:):)
I played the videos for my 81 year old Mother and she sat and cried along with me! We have each ordered four copies of the CD!
Paul, your Julie-Ann is such a sweetheart! You did yourself proud when you found her. I love it that she wants anything that will make you happy. I feel the same way about my husband! Please tell me, was that your Mother and Father in the audience holding up the sign with your name on it? I haven't seen or heard anything of them but have heard your wife and brother being interviewed.
Paul I cannot wait until you come to America! PLEASE come to The Honda Center in Anaheim, California! I live in Diamond Bar which is right up the freeway from there!
We love you dearly and congratulate you and with all our hearts we wish you continued love and success. You deserve it! You are indeed fortunate to have Simon behind you! I love the way that man was so moved by you as so many of us are from around the world!

Lots and Lots of Love from a devoted fan and friend! (I feel like I know you personally)
XOXO Trisha Bowler
p.s. Just yesterday I sent your videos to a childhood friend of mine who now lives across the country. She is the daughter of the late famous Hall of Fame composer, arranger, musician and conductor, Johnny Green. You can Google him and read about his five Oscars and many works. I knew the man and I believe he would have loved you too!

It is really fabulous that Julie Ann can go with you on tour, now you can have a holiday and won't have to spend any money on it, because you'll be working, too. :)

So far, Simon seems to be doing pretty well with the other acts he's promoting and he appears to sincerely like you, Paul, as do we. Onward and upward!

We're still waiting for your CD to be released here in America, but so many of us have preordered it, it's already one of the top sellers on Amazon.com and that's something, considering how big this country is and how many acts we have to choose from. You've barely appeared on tv here, yet, and most of this has been from word of mouth over the internet. It is really incredible. My husband and I are anxious to receive it!

I hope they release some DVDs of your concerts so that we can see them, too. You are so enjoyable to watch, as well as listen to. Thanks for doing a blog and keeping us updated. :):)

Paul your CD is awsome, the way you sing Cavatina is uncomparable. So much tenderness in your voice. You made the old musician that I am, shiver. Don't mind the critics. It's something you will have to deal with from now on. But the worldwide musicloving community (i.e. the common people) is standing behind you. Take your time to work on your voice. Willing to bet that within a few years you blow them all from there ivory tower

Jack Hugill wrote...

After many many viewings I still thrill to Paul Potts BGT performances; the thrill so enhanced by the incredulity of the judges, epecially Mr. Cowell.

Having surfed for other information on Mr. Potts I am saddened at discovering there are those who are so willing to bring out there knives and savage something that brings so much joy to so many.

I chuckle at the criticism that Mr. Potts has taken training and has been in amateur operas ........ duh .... what about the other great acts on BGT. I do not think these people just came up from the basement or out of the garage to compete on BGT. I am sure it has cost these other acts money also to perfect their skills as it has Mr. Potts.

My wish for him is, yes, to bask in the glow of his "overnight" discovery but to work at perfecting his magnificent voice and most importantly to heed the words of Mr. Paul Bryant (posted July 19). Truer words were never spoken.

Never a fan of opera - Paul Potts has me sitting up and taking notice.

Michael Warner wrote...

Hello Paul
As I watched you for the first time, I was immediately struck by the contrast that so clearly exists in this world, especially in light of the recent terrorist threats in the UK. There are those who seek only to hurt and destroy, and offer nothing to the world but pain. But then, quietly, God, in a brief instant, reminds us that He is in control and that there is nothing anyone can do to diminish His all mighty power, grace and love. He reminded us through you the way this world was meant to be. And gave us hope.

My prayer for you is that you will remain true to yourself, being in this world but not of it.

Congratulations!

A big hello from San Francisco,CA! Maybe you'll come & sing for us at the Opera House here someday?

Love your singing, your story, your CD. Most of all, I enjoy your honesty & sincere approach to the exciting events coming your way now.
I agree w/ the general advice posted by Paul Bryant in the first post above. Please take care of yourself, stand up for yourself in every way! Take a lesson from those who've handled the demands of fame well & poorly, because so many folks want you to have a loooong career, allowing us to enjoy many songs and performances. If you ever were actually insignificant, that is certainly NOT true any more & it's imperative that you have lots of time to both rest and work on the things that will keep you in tip top shape.
Please know that any advice is given w/ the most sincere concern - and no doubt, your wife is helping to keep you well cared for by accompanying you around the globe.
Anyway, God Bless you both and I'll be watching for news and video of all the upcoming events!

God Bless You and Julie!

As good as you are, we can only imagine how you will sound at 45 or 50 as your voice matures even further. I'm 66 and I only hope I'm alive to hear you then.

Paul, you are an inspiration to all the folks out here with hidden talents who are afraid to step out of their three foot circle and take a chance. You've done it - and you've shown them they can, as well. What an inspiration you are!
